Authorities say a man was drunk when he crashed his car through the garage of a north Lincoln home Thursday night.

Lincoln police officers responded to the scene near 33rd and Apple St. and found a 2002 Cadillac Deville had driven through the garage and come to rest against a neighboring garage.

A witness told officers a man, identified by police as 34-year-old Ronnie Sabin – had run from the crash scene. Officers found Sabin walking in the area and conducted a DUI investigation, which determined he had a BAC of .138, police said.

Officers reportedly found numerous bottles of alcohol inside the vehicle, some of which were empty and some of which were full.

Sabin was arrested for reckless driving, open alcohol container in a vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and DUI. He was cited and released to detox.

Channel 8 spoke with the homeowner, who says he and his wife heard the crash and looked outside to find a car sitting in their back yard.

“It went all the way through the garage, anything that was in the center of the garage was pretty much destroyed so, we have people coming here to help us board it up and we’ll go from there,” says Ed Eppens, the homeowner.

Eppens says most of what was destroyed can be replaced and the damage to the building is covered by his insurance. However, there were a few items he won’t get back.

“I had an antique wood chest with a whole bunch of wood tools in it that used to belong to my grandfather, a few things that probably can’t be replaced, but you know.”

Despite the damage, Eppens isn’t angry. He’s just glad no one was hurt.
