LPD investigates new fraud where the caller claimed to be an LPD lieutenant

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) announced an investigation regarding a fraud where the caller identified as an LPD lieutenant.

According to LPD, the victim reported the caller claimed to be law enforcement, saying she failed to appear in court and had a warrant for her arrest.

The scammer told the victim to send the payment through a CVS money transfer and Bitcoin transfer. The total loss for the victim was $1,600.

The caller used a fake name and badge number to appear legitimate.

LPD ensures the community that they would never ask for payment over the phone in any scenario.
