On July 4, 2020 at 12:34 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 2700 block of S. 40th St. regarding the report of a male who was shot inside the home. When officers arrived they found the young adult deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Lincoln police.

Authorities said this in an ongoing investigation, they are still in the process of interviewing witnesses, processing the scene, and documenting evidence. The initial investigation suggests that there was a small gathering at the residence. It appears some of the occupants were playing around and a firearm was involved.

An 18 year-old male,  Zachariah Serna, was arrested for manslaughter. The victims name has not been released at this time, authorities must notify his family first.

Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter Alexa Skonieski spoke with several neighbors off camera who said this is very unusual for a homicide to happen here in their community. Other residents in the area didn’t hear a thing overnight, some thought it was just more fireworks from the holiday weekend.
