Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting that left a man dead in south Lincoln.

The shooting happened around 5 a.m. Monday morning at a home near 13th and Washington St.

Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister said a 48-year-old man, a resident of the home, was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators are still processing the scene and conducting interviews on the scene. Bliemeister said residents can expect a heavy police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

One person is in custody while being questioned by police, Bliemeister said. He said in a meeting Monday afternoon that the victim “lost his life at the hands of his son,” however no arrests had been made at that time.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, he said.

Additional details could be released later Monday or Tuesday morning.

Investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000.

This is the fifth homicide in Lincoln this year.
