Authorities are alerting residents about a potential scam circulating throughout Lincoln and Lancaster County.

On Monday, June 15th, 2020, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) contacted the Lincoln Police Department to report that an unknown individual(s) was calling residents and asking them to move their cars to the street so they could re-do their driveways.

The caller explained that LTU and the city of Lincoln would pay for the driveway repairs.  However, LPU advised that this appears to be a scam. No one has suffered a financial loss at this point, police said.

LPD reminds residents who live both within and outside the city limits to be on the alert for this type of scam, even if the phone number shows up and appears to be coming from a city department.  Scammers can disguise their numbers and impersonate city workers from any department.

Residents may contact Lincoln Transportation and Utilities at 402-441-7711 to verify projects in their area, and residents may also contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 to report any scams or frauds.
