Authorities have arrested a man who reportedly shot a woman living in an apartment below him.

Lincoln police officers responded Thursday night to an apartment building near N. 46th and Holdrege St. on reports of a shooting.

Officers found a 57-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators determined the shot came from the apartment above the woman, which was empty when officers arrived on the scene. They determined 21-year-old Matthew Krahmer lived in the unit, and he was taken into custody when he returned later Thursday night.

Krahmer told officers the weapon discharged when he was trying to put it down, police said. A witness told officers they believe Krahmer was expecting a potentially violent encounter with someone he had an ongoing disagreement with. Police said it is believed the victim was not the intended target.

Krahmer was lodged for second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
