Authorities on Tuesday arrested a man shortly after he was released from jail for prior offenses.

Lincoln police arrested 39-year-old David Hefner on Sunday for allegedly smashing out windows of two O St. businesses with rocks.

On Tuesday, as he was released from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Hefner became upset and tried to rip out the pay phone in the jail lobby, police said. Hefner then tried to use another phone to smash glass partitions in the lobby, destroying the phone and causing minor damage to the glass, police said.

When correctional officers tried to contact him, Hefner ran out of the lobby, police said.

Hefner was later found walking down O St. He was arrested for resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
