Authorities say a man is behind bars after he intentionally crashed a stolen mini bus into multiple vehicles while evading the owner.

Lincoln police say the bus’s owner, 68-year-old man who works for East Ridge Adult Day Center, flagged down officers in the parking lot of Russ’s Market near 17th and Washington and told them the vehicle had been stolen.

Officers stopped the bus near S. 18th and M St. and arrested the driver – identified by police as 25-year-old Robert Hillard – Monday morning.

The owner told officers the bus had been stolen Friday, and that he had spotted it in the Russ’s lot and began to follow it. Hillard then began trying to evade the owner and purposely drove into two parked vehicles in the lot, police said. Estimated damage to the vehicles is $5,000.

Hillard was arrested for felony theft by receiving, felony criminal mischief, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the bus is worth $60,000.
