LPD: Man wanted for sexual assault arrested after trying to race a cop

Police reported finding the man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after he was under the influence of narcotics and tried to race a police officer

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- Lincoln Police have reported a sexual assault of a minor that happened on November 28, 2020, at 1 a.m. at Oak Lake Park.

Police reported that 25-year-old Ahmed Baqli told a 15-year-old girl that he was 17, he picked her up, had sex with her, then fled from the park, leaving the girl alone in the car.

Now, LPD says they’ve found him. How? He tried to race an officer, according to LPD.

On March 22, 2021, at 2:30 a.m., an officer observed him at a stoplight on Antelope Valley Parkway and P street. The officer said that Baqli made eye contact with him, saluted, then started revving his engine.

Then, the officer said he started driving 60 MPH, engaging in a race with the police officer. After swerving between several lanes of traffic, the officer said he stopped him and Baqli wasn’t happy about it.

According to the officer’s report, Baqli identified himself and he could tell that the driver was under the influence of narcotics.

LPD reported finding a small amount of cocaine and a concealed knife on Baqli. He was arrested for the following: Possession of controlled substance, DUI, Reckless driving, No proof of ownership of the vehicle, Carrying a concealed weapon, and 1st-degree sexual assault (statutory rape).
