A man is behind bars after authorities say he fought to avoid being arrested by officers.

Lincoln police officers responded Wednesday night to Hazel Abel Park on reports of a person yelling at people passing by the area. When they arrived they found a man, identified by police as 26-year-old Dustin Kann, who they were familiar with from prior incidents and who had a broadcast out for his arrest.

Kann took off running from the officers, and punched one in the face when they tried to grab him, police said. The officer continued to wrestle with Kann who tried to fight his way free, police said. Officers eventually deployed a Taser and took Kann into custody.

One officer sprained an ankle during the struggle, police said. One officer had to grab a pit bull that was with Kann to prevent it from biting another, according to an affidavit for Kann’s arrest.

Kann was lodged for third-degree assault on an officer and resisting arrest.
