LPD releases crash statistics on seat belt use

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) released statistics regarding seat belt use in crashes.

Of the 3,879 crashes from January through July 2025, 1,408 involved people who were not wearing seat belts.

Of the 3,315 crashes during the same period in 2026, 1,311 involved people who were not wearing seat belts.

According to LPD, more than 70% of the 55 people involved in fatal and serious injury crashes were not restrained.
