LPD responds to false swatting call at Lincoln Southwest High School

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) announced a report Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is currently investigating.

LPD received a report that there was a possible safety concern at Lincoln Southwest High School.

According to LPS, the information the caller provided did not match anything about the school. The School Resource Officer decided, out of extreme caution, to call for extra officers and begin an investigation.

The report was determined to be false, also known as swatting.

The investigation is currently ongoing and school continued as normal.

LPS said the false swatting report is one of several that has happened in Lincoln, in Nebraska and across the nation. They urge parents and students to report any threats of violence. Along with that, LPS urges parents to speak with students about how words matter.

“We take all conversations about violence towards others seriously and investigate them fully. There is nothing funny about joking about violence against others,” LPS wrote.
