LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Monday morning a Lincoln Police officer spotted a black van driving north on 10 Street, near Park Avenue, with expired plates.

While the officer was looking up the plates, the van parked in a nearby driveway, and the driver took off.

Police later learned that the van was reported stolen in September of 2020. The vehicle was originally red but was painted black to avoid detection.

Other officers were called in to help find the driver. A man matching his description was seen entering a home near S 9th and South Streets.

When the man left the house a short time later, he was taken into custody. The resident of the home, a 77-year-old, says he did not know this man and tried to force him out of his house.

The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Daniel Medley. The stolen van was found with several catalytic converters and power tools inside. Officers are still investigating where these catalytic converters came from.

Medley was arrested on several theft and trespassing charges.
