LPD: Student mistaken for car vandal, assaulted with pepper-spray

A Lincoln North Star student was assaulted after being mistaken for the culprit of a vandalism.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – According to LPD, a Lincoln North Star high school student was assaulted after being mistaken as the vandal of another students car.

On September 21, officers were made aware of a racial slur scratched into the paint of a 17-year-old student’s car.

An investigation revealed that a 16-year-old North Star high school student was responsible for the damage of the vehicle, and was referred for destruction of property and hate crime.

The owner of the vehicle mistakenly believed another student to be responsible for the vandalism, and assaulted him with pepper spray.

The assault was reported to LPD on September 23 and resulted in the owner of the vehicle being issued a juvenile referral for assault.
