LPD: Weapon, drugs found in speeding vehicle
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Saturday, just before 11 p.m. a Lincoln Police officer pulled over a Dodge Avenger swerving along “O” Street, near 40th.
The officer reports seeing the car speeding, 67 mph, eastbound just behind another vehicle. The Avenger sped past the car using the inside turn lane then swerved back into traffic, almost hitting the median.
The officer identified the driver as a 25-year-old man, along with a 22-year-old male passenger. The officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.
The driver was unable to produce a driver’s license or paperwork for the car. When reaching for the glove box, the officer said he saw a handgun inside.
Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody. The handgun was found to be unloaded, with the loaded magazine kept in the center console and a loose bullet on the driver’s floorboard.
Lincoln Police also reported finding 7.2 grams of marijuana in the driver’s door plus a still smoking blunt and an open bottle of Cognac in the cupholder. The passenger had 2.6 grams of marijuana on his person.
The driver was driving with a suspended license.
The driver was cited on multiple charges including speeding and possession of marijuana. The passenger was cited for possession of marijuana.
