LPD: Woman steals car, ‘tired of walking’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Wednesday, Lincoln Police responded to an unusual auto theft.  Officers were called to the 1200 block of South 16th Street around 4:15 p.m. They contacted a 25-year-old male victim who reported his car had been stolen.

Later that day, police located the alleged stolen vehicle when responding to an unrelated disturbance call in the 1200 block of “E” Street. They arrived on scene just before 9:30 to find the vehicle with several people gathered around it.

One of these individuals was 28-year-old Mary Nyembo. Officers found that Nyembo was in possession of the car keys.

She explained that she had found the car unlocked with the keys inside. Nyembo claimed she then took the vehicle because she was tired of walking.

Officers cited and lodged Nyembo for theft by unlawful taking.
