LPS Board of Education plans to discuss increase in budget, possibly raising property taxes

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Public Board of Education is planning to discuss the budget in property tax increase tonight.

Nothing will be approved unless the board takes special action.

Lincoln Public Schools is looking at a 4% total increase to the overall budget. The district is not changing its tax levy for this year. However, because property values rose more than 5% in Lancaster County, there is a possible increase of 4.2% to property taxes.

There will be a joint public hearing on Sept. 17 after the discussion tonight.
