Masks in schools

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —Just hours after the CDC announced a recommendation that all students K-12 should be required to wear masks in schools, Lincoln Public School parents had a lot to say.

So far, the most recent return to school plan draft says masks would be optional for all students. Will that change with the new guidance? Superintedent Steve Joel released a statement on the issue saying:

“Just as we have done the last year during the pandemic any time new information and guidance is released, we will review the latest recommendations released by the CDC today (7/27) and we will continue to work with the Lincoln–Lancaster County Health Department to update our safe return to school plan based on local conditions. Any updates made to the plan will be communicated through email, our website and social media.”

Although no decision was made on masks at the board meeting, all members concluded to keep the pandemic and emergency powers resolution put in place in 2020.
