Magic Moments: Family of Lincoln boy with lymphoma gets Christmas gifts
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln family received a special Christmas experience on Thursday.
The Akridge family had their world turned upside down in March, when 9-year-old Levi was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
But thanks to Union Bank & Trust, the family had a special Christmas.
Channel 8 is proud to partner with UBT again this year for the Magic Moments Christmas experience.
Levi said he was overwhelmed at first but loved being with his family.
“I was kind of excited and anxious because I love opening presents with my family and seeing my mom and dad have smiles on their face,” he said.
The family gathered on the couch to open their gifts.
A couple of the gifts that scored major points with the boys were jerseys of their favorite NFL teams and players.
Michaela, the mom, received an intangible gift she won’t forget: watching her kids open their presents.
She said she was touched by the generosity of people who didn’t even know her family.
“During this time of year, it’s just really humbling to be able to have others provide for our children and just kind of create an exciting, special day,” Michaela said.
All of the kids, young and old, were excited about their gifts.
As for Levi, he’s excited that he’ll get to spend more time with his family.
The family was given memberships to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and the Lincoln Children’s Museum.
And they’ll receive a dinner at Olive Garden, where a limo will pick them up afterward to see Christmas light displays, something the family said they haven’t done in many years.
