Magic Moments: Lincoln woman finding a bright light in every situation
This year's first recipient of Magic Moments is Sydnie Murphy and her son, Oscar.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – It’s that time of year. Magic Moments is back. Channel 8 and Union Bank are teaming up to surprise deserving families this holiday season.
This year’s first recipient is Sydnie Murphy and her son, Oscar.
“I don’t really think of myself as going above and beyond,” Murphy said. “I just kind of live everyday. I never would have thought of someone to think of me for this.”
The family received Airpods, books, pajamas, new shoes, a bathroom caddy, coloring utensils and more.
Murphy was nominated for her volunteering and mission work in Haiti. Her nominators said she is able to find a bright light in every situation.
At two-years-old, Murphy and her siblings were placed into foster care after her mother was injured in a car accident. Murphy eventually aged-out of the system. She is now in the process of earning her bachelor’s degree.
“If kids age out of the foster system, only 50 percent of them will graduate from high school and less than three percent will earn their bachelor’s degree. I think it’s really important not to forget about those kids and just help them out.”
Channel 8 and Union Bank are proud to team up. We will be bringing you more Magic Moments throughout December.
