Magic Moments: Christmas gifts are Lincoln family’s latest blessing after great hardship
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Novotny family has received a Christmas to remember.
In 2019, Matt Novotny was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, which ended up spreading to his brain and other areas of his body.
But on Tuesday he, his wife, four children and two dogs received numerous gifts thanks to Union Bank & Trust’s Magic Moments experience.
Those gifts include memberships at the Lincoln Zoo and Lincoln Children’s Museum.
The whole family was also excited to receive tickets to see the Dallas Stars play.
But maybe the greatest gift of all came a few months ago with the birth of their son Cohen.
“When we found out that we were pregnant with him, he (Matt) had a scan, and it was the first good scan we had had in like three years,” Amber Novotny said. “And so he (Cohen) was the blessing that God gave us to tell us that things are gonna be OK.” Ever since, it’s just been looking up for us, so I just feel like he’s our little blessing.”
The cancer is mostly gone now from Matt’s body.
He still has some in his brain and under his arm, but recent scans showed that his brain tumor has shrunk.
He has more treatments to go through, but the doctors say the outlook is better and are calling him their miracle patient.
