Malcolm Clippers sail to perfect season with win over Wilber-Clatonia

MALCOLM, Neb. (KLKN) – For the first time since 1999, the Malcolm Clippers finish the regular season undefeated after beating down Wilber-Clatonia 62-28 on Friday night.

The Clippers got things started early.  On the second play of the game, Hayden Frank launched a pass to Noah Vanevery, who completed the 61-yard catch and run.

Later in the first quarter, with Malcolm up 14-0, Frank decided to keep it himself on an option play.

He cut back, broke through the defense and went 78 yards to the end zone.

In the third quarter, the Clippers were up 48-21, but the Wolverines of Wilber-Clatonia weren’t going down without a fight.

They went with the flea-flicker play, and it worked to perfection.

Coy Rosentreader fired a deep pass, which was caught over the shoulder by Carter Skleba.  He took it all the way to pay dirt.

But the Clippers’ offense just couldn’t be stopped.

Frank again threw a deep pass, this time to Logan McGreer down the sideline.  McGreer tiptoed to avoid going out of bounds and evaded tacklers to get to the end zone.

Malcolm would tack on one more touch down for good measure as they demoralized the Wolverines, never turning over the ball.

Clippers head coach Scott Amen couldn’t have been happier after the win.

“I’m happy for these kids,” he said. “They’ve worked hard, you know, these seniors. They’ve been battling for four years, when they’re little kids, you know, they worked their tails off. They came out today, they proved it all season, you know, they’ve been able to put points up.”

Of going undefeated, Frank said, “It’s something we’ve dreamed of as kids. … It’s something that every single one of us put the work and we’ve talked about it every single day.”

Malcolm is in the playoffs, while Wilber-Clatonia will miss out after this loss.
