Malcolm man impacts 71 lives through organ and tissue donations

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Live On Nebraska named Verle Finke a “donor hero” following his organ and tissue donations across nine states.

Kathy Finke, Verle’s wife, says her husband gave donor recipients a second chance and would be “extremely proud” that his wishes were honored.

Following Verle’s death in 2020, Kathy has been sharing his legacy through organ and tissue donation.

“His family was everything to him,” she said.

Kathy said Verle had been a donor for as long as she knew him, and was considered selfless by many.

Three recipients of Verle’s organs received lifesaving transplants, and his donations also aided in over 60 spinal and orthopedic surgeries.

“It gives you a feeling that there’s something good that can come out of something bad,” she said.

Kathy said the transition was difficult, but knowing other families were given a second chance inspires her daily.

“It’s just because maybe down the road, someone else in my family may need that,” she reflected.  “To know we kind of helped maybe with that process, it gives you a feeling that you can make a difference.”
