Man accused of whacking Lincoln ATM with hammer, elbowing officer in the face
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Jeremy Pickinpaugh was arrested after police say he hit an ATM with a hammer on Wednesday, before causing even more chaos.
This all started near 17th and P Streets around 4:30 p.m. The Lincoln Police Department says Pickinpaugh pulled the hammer from his jacket and struck the machine.
Officers caught up with him a couple of blocks away where we’re told he refused to follow commands and walked away.
They tried tasing the 37-year-old but were unsuccessful, leading to a short chase.
Police say even after Pickinpaugh was in handcuffs he continued causing problems, by striking an officer in the face with his elbow.
That officer suffered a minor injury from the attack. Pickinpaugh is charged with assaulting an officer and criminal mischief.
It’ll cost an estimated $5,000 to fix the ATM. Pickinpaugh’s bond amount is $25,000.
