Man armed with knife cut woman, threatened five kids, Nebraska police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested after a Thursday morning standoff involving five kids, according to the Grand Island Police Department.

Police said this all began just before 2 a.m. at a home near West State Street and North Huston Avenue.

GIPD said Joseph Wetzel knocked a woman to the ground, struck her multiple times and cut her with a 7-inch kitchen knife.

Wetzel is then accused of locking himself in a room with three kids, while threatening the lives of all five children as well as the woman.

After police gave him several commands, he eventually came out of the home and was arrested.

Wetzel is now facing a long list of charges, including terroristic threats, intentional child abuse and possession of a deadly weapon.
