Man arrested after officer sees him stealing catalytic convertor, Lincoln Police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Sunday after an officer saw him underneath a vehicle in the process of stealing a catalytic converter, Lincoln Police say.

Around 1:30 a.m. during a routine patrol near 70th and P Streets, an officer saw 32-year-old Sergey Stoyan underneath a vehicle.

The officer got closer and saw a catalytic converter on the ground.  He also noticed that Stoyan had a power tool in his hands, Lincoln Police say.

Stoyan then got out from underneath the vehicle and ran away.  The officer eventually caught up with Stoyan and took him into custody.

Officers found three other catalytic converters inside his vehicle, Lincoln Police say.

Stoyan was arrested on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking, possession of burglar tools, possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, and obstructing a police officer.
