Man arrested in 2015 double homicide in Omaha

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Tuesday in a cold case homicide investigation in Omaha, police say.
Cavin Cooper, 35, was arrested in the slayings of Diondre Mitchell and Lafayette Reed, who were found dead in a home near Highway 75 and Bristol Street in 2015.
On Tuesday, he was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of using a gun to commit a felony and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
“I hope the arrest in the double homicide from 2015 provides some closure for the families,” Chief Todd Schmaderer said in a press release. “Homicide cases, no matter how old, will always receive our greatest attention.”
Cooper is already serving time for first-degree assault, weapons charges and habitual criminal charges related to a 2018 crime, according to police.
