Man arrested in connection to first degree arson case

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – On Dec. 3, 2025, the owner of a house near Hickman woke up and smelled smoke prompting immediate action. She saw a man actively trying to set her house on fire before he ran off.

The man allegedly started the fire on the dryer vent of the house.

Lancaster County Sherriff’s Office (LSO) was dispatched to the area at around 3 a.m. LSO conducted an investigation and ultimately made an arrest.

The victim’s ex-husband,  38-year-old Trever Wagner, was arrested and lodged for suspicion of first degree arson.

Wagner allegedly caused $8,000 worth of damage to the house.

“I’m just really proud of our guys,” said Chief Deputy Houchin. “They made a very good case and a good arrest.”
