Man caught driving with child in third DUI arrest south of Lincoln, deputy says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man is facing a felony child abuse charge after the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says he drove drunk with a 1-year-old in the car.

Around 11:30 a.m. Saturday, a caller reported that a man was passed out in a vehicle parked near 56th Street and Rokeby Road.

When deputies arrived, they watched the man – later identified as 38-year-old Patrick Regan – get out to urinate, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

Regan smelled of alcohol, and deputies found a 1-year-old child in the back seat, according to Houchin.

“Can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning, I guess,” Houchin said. “But that’s sad. He has a problem, it seems.”

The mother came to pick up the child, who was uninjured, and Regan was taken to jail.

Houchin said Regan had a blood alcohol content level of 0.259%.  The legal limit in Nebraska is 0.08%.

He was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including third-offense driving under the influence and felony child abuse.
