LPD: Man jumps into traffic to avoid arrest

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Tuesday around 2:00 p.m., plain clothes investigators were following up on information concerning 21-year-old Tyler Vercher. He was suspected of having a firearm, which he is prohibited from having.
Upon further investigation, investigators observed Vercher outside his apartment, at the 15oo block of Superior Street, where the suspect spotted the officers and took off running. Investigators confirmed Vercher was carrying a weapon, as they saw one in his waistband as he turned to run away, and proceeded to pursue the individual.
Vercher disposed of the gun by throwing it mid-chase. He eventually stopped near Superior Street, where officers attempted to place him in custody. He physically resisted and broke away from the officers. Vercher then proceeded to jump over a boat trailer hitch into traffic in order to evade arrest.
Police were eventually able to apprehend him and locate the gun, which was found to be a loaded 9mm Ruger that had been reported stolen from a vehicle on June 12th. Vercher was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and resisting arrest.
