Man killed in crash after fleeing DUI investigation, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was killed on Tuesday after authorities said he crashed his vehicle while fleeing from an impaired driving investigation in Hall County.
Just before 2:15 p.m., a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol saw a GMC Sierra blow a tire and slide to a stop near the Grand Island exit on Interstate 80.
After speaking with the driver, the trooper suspected that the driver was impaired, according to authorities.
The trooper asked the driver to get out of the car and follow him to his patrol unit. As the trooper approached his unit, authorities said the driver ran back to his vehicle and drove off.
Officials said the trooper started a chase and failed to get the driver to pull over.
The driver exited Interstate 80 onto Alda Road and headed north. Shortly after, authorities said the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
Authorities said the driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, was ejected as a result of the crash.
Additional rescue units were called to the scene, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
