Man shot at Kwik Shop arrested; no charges filed against shooter

A man shot while reportedly stealing liquor from a Lincoln convenience store has been arrested — and prosecutors say the woman who shot him is not being charged at this time.

Lincoln police arrested the suspect, 22-year-old Tilian Tilian, Wednesday on a warrant for robbery. Police said Tilian struggled with an employee at the Kwik Shop at 56th and Holdrege on August 1, before fleeing the store with two bottles of alcohol.

According to an arrest affidavit, Tilian told the employee he would hurt her before breaking free of her grasp and running out of the store. On his way out, a customer, later identified as 38-year-old Shelby Jones, was standing near the store exit.

Jones, who police said has a concealed carry permit, told Tilian to “stop or I’ll shoot,” according to the affidavit. As Tilian fled, Jones fired a shot that struck him in the elbow.

Jones was arrested for first-degree assault, but Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon told Channel 8 Eyewitness News Tuesday morning no charges have been filed against Jones and that she was only cited.

Jones did not respond to attempts by Channel 8 Eyewitness News to contact her.
