Man shows up to hospital with gunshot wound, LPD investigates
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) —
UPDATE: Tuesday, just after 4:40 p.m., the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) was called to Bryan West Hospital, 2300 S 16th St., when a man was reported to have been shot. Officers contacted the 26-year-old victim, who had a gunshot wound to the arm and leg. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later, LPD was dispatched to the 1000 block of W Welton Street on a report of a shooting. The suspect, 60-year-old Johnny Anderson, turned himself over to police indicating he was responsible for the shooting. Investigators cleared the residence to confirm there were no other victims.
LPD served a search warrant for the residence at 8 p.m. and processed the scene for evidence. After speaking with witnesses, investigators found the 26-year-old male, who was treated for a gunshot wound, had caused a disturbance at the residence. During the disturbance, he displayed a gun and was then shot by Anderson. The 26-year-old’s gun was located in the residence and found to be a realistic-looking BB gun.
It was reported Anderson and the victim live in the same residence with several family members. The gun used by Anderson was at the residence and investigators found he was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous felony conviction.
Anderson was arrested at 5 p.m. for 1st Degree Assault, Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.
On September 2nd, 2020, approximately 4:41 pm, the Lincoln Police Department responded to a local hospital who reported they were treating a shooting victim who had just arrived. Information provided by the victim led officers to the 1000 block of W. Welter Drive. Officers have contacted several family members of the victim and are continuing the investigation. Police are not currently looking for any additional parties associated to this incident and believe there are no existing threats to the public at this time.
Additional information will be provided tomorrow morning during the normal press briefing held at 8:45 am.

Wednesday afternoon, around 5 o’clock, a heavy police presence was reported in the area of Van Dorn and Homestead Expressway. LPD says they have detained several people in this area for questioning. LPD says no arrests have been made at this time.
