Authorities say two people were seriously injured in two separate fireworks accidents over the weekend.

On July 4, emergency crews responded around 9 p.m. to the 5500 block of Otoe St. after an artillery shell detonated in the face of a 14-year-old boy.

Lincoln police say the boy suffered signficant facial injuries that required surgery. His injuries were not considered life threatening, police said.

Later that night police say a 44-year-old man suffered significant damage to his hands, face and chest after an artillery shell went off in his hand.

The man was hospitalized and police say his injuries are not considered life threatening.
