Matt has spent his life surrounded by Lincoln and Nebraska sports. Matt remembers practically growing up in Memorial Stadium, going to games since he was toddler, and witnessing six different Nebraska football coaches. As part of the Channel 8 Eyewitness News Sports team, he will cover a brand new era at a pivotal time in the Husker history books.
“I love to talk, tell stories and document history. Doing all that on television is just a bonus,” on his reason for going into broadcasting. While attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln he worked at HuskerOnline, Big Ten Network, News Channel Nebraska, local radio stations and took every opportunity for sports broadcasting at UNL. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to start my television career right here in Lincoln, Nebraska. I’m looking forward to experiencing the Scott Frost era and finding the stories and moments every day that make us love sports so much,” Matt says.
Matt was involved in Big Red Singers show choir all four years in college, spent time mentoring a young leader in the Nebraska Human Resources Institute, and volunteered for Lighthouse and Dance Marathon. He admits, “I’m a singer. I spent seven years between high school and college singing and dancing on stage, which almost turned into an alter ego from my sports-first personality.” He says that he actually also likes to play sports, when he’s not covering them for Channel 8 Eyewitness News Sports.
