Matt Talbot aims to raise almost $50,000 during Huskers Helping the Homeless

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach is taking to the streets to collect donations as part of the annual Huskers Helping the Homeless event.

On Thursday, some students from the Lincoln Southwest softball team were out at the Super Saver near 27th Street and Pine Lake Road helping to gather donations.

Volunteers will be out at various locations, including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Super Saver, Russ’s Market and more, on Friday and Saturday.

The main push for donations will be downtown on Saturday before the Nebraska-Oklahoma game.

And Matt Talbot could still use volunteers.

“As long as you have an interest in speaking with people and you care about our mission, want to help us, we’d love to have you on our team,” said Tori Wellman, director of development. “Right now, we’re going to have about about 300 people, and we have room for probably about 50 more, so we’ll work with different people on location, what works best for them. They just have to give us a call.”

If you want to volunteer to gather donations, call Matt Talbot at 402-817-0623.

Wellman said the goal is to raise nearly $50,000 over the three days of the event.
