Mayor Gaylor Baird receives first dose of COVID-19 vaccine
The Mayor received the Pfizer shot on Wednesday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird received her first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday.
“I feel so joyful and grateful and excited,” Gaylor Baird said. “I’ve been waiting for this day just like so many in our community. I have been waiting for this day for a long time. This is a very, very happy moment. I feel grateful.”
The Mayor received the Pfizer shot at Pinnacle Bank Arena, during the The health department’s clinic for residents age 49 and older who were getting their first dose.
Mayor Gaylor Baird’s friend and colleague Health Director Pat Lopez administrated the shot. The two shared tears, smiles and a hug.
Mayor Gaylor Baird said she’s excited to take the step in protecting her family, friends and the community. Next week, Director Lopez said the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will be hosting Lincoln’s first drive-thru vaccine site. More information will be released soon.
