Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird denounces Together Nebraska’s claim she lives outside Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird sent out a call to action to State Senator Suzanne Geist, asking her to reject what she said are lies spread by Together Nebraska, a committee that supports Geist’s run for mayor.

One of the ads on the Together Nebraska website claims Baird lives in a 1.6-million-dollar mansion in Ashland, where she’s able to escape from her “Lincoln failures.”

In a press release sent Saturday, Gaylor Baird said “Buying elections with seedy attack ads full of lies may work in national politics, but we should reject that approach in our city. To set the record straight, I have lived in my home in Lincoln’s Near South neighborhood for over 20 years, we pay our property taxes here, and all three of my children attended Lincoln Public Schools – one still does.”

The mayor said while her family does own a home in Ashland, they don’t live there and only spend select holidays and weekends at the property.

“I call on my opponent, State Senator Geist, to publicly denounce these lies and tell her supporters to stop perpetuating them,” Gaylor Baird said.

Channel 8 reached out to Senator Geist and did not receive a statement at the time this story was published.
