Milk Mobile will distribute donated breast milk in Lincoln and beyond

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Malone Community Center unveiled its newest addition on Wednesday: the Milk Mobile.

The new vehicle will distribute donated milk in Lincoln, Omaha and surroundings areas within a two-hour drive.

Malone started its milk share program a month ago.

“There are lot of people who are in need of it,” said Cydney Gaines, the community engagement coordinator. “We wanted to provide a resource for community members to have access to that.”

Organizers said this program is to help mothers who might not have the resources to get milk through milk banks.

Through a partnership, Malone will screen the candidates for milk donation.

“We will do blood work panels to help identify donors who might be appropriate for our programs and also, so recipients know the kind of milk that they are receiving,” Gaines said.

One of Malone’s partners is Healthy Blue, which says this partnership helps promote healthy moms and healthy babies.

The milk share program also offers support and education for mothers after they give birth.

“They’ve been a tremendous support,” said Nyaduoth Gatkek, a client and member of the milk share program committee.

Those who want to become a donor or a recipient can contact the Malone Center for more information at 402-474-1110.
