LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Of all the places to be, a missing inmate was spending his day in downtown Omaha when he was spotted by a corrections worker on Wednesday morning.

A Nebraska Department of Correctional Services staff member saw 50-year-old John Strickland near 16th and Farnam Streets.

The staffer called Omaha Police and waited until Strickland was taken into custody, according to officials.

Strickland left the Community Corrections Center-Omaha on Monday, without prior authorization, and removed his electronic monitoring device.

He had been serving a three-year sentence on charges out of Hall County that include criminal mischief, theft and terroristic threats.

Strickland had a tentative release date of Jan. 26, 2023.
