More than 100 employers want to recruit veterans at national virtual job fair
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The nonprofit organization Disabled American Veterans and the company RecruitMilitary are co-hosting a national virtual job fair until 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The event is free to veterans, their spouses, active-duty military personnel and members of the National Guard and Reserve.
DAV said more than 100 employers seeking to hire America’s veterans will be at the virtual fair, and plenty of veterans are looking for new work.
“We have a lot of folks out there right now that are wanting to switch gears and pivot to different careers coming out of what I call ‘the COVID cocoon,'” said Rob Lougee, DAV’s national employment director.
Through DAV, veterans can also receive career counseling and resume assistance, network with fellow vets and military personnel, and get support accessing their Department of Veterans Affairs benefits – all at no cost.
Lougee said it’s important for vets to reach out if they need help.
“Sometimes they’re hesitant to reach out because of a pride factor, and I have to say, ‘Get past that quickly because that’s not going to serve you well if you’re not willing to reach out and ask for assistance, guidance.’ We all need that at some time in our lives.”
