Mountain lion sighting confirmed near Seward County by Nebraska Game and Parks
SEWARD COUNTY, Neb. (KLKN) — On Aug. 3, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office notified the public of a possible mountain lion sighting. Today, the Nebraska Game and Parks confirmed the sighting.
Sam Wilson, Furbearer and Carnivore Program Manager with Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, said the mountain lion near Seward County was most likely a young male.
He said most mountain lions are not alone unless they are young, around 1-2 years old. Because the closest pack of mountain lions is hundreds of miles away, this lion is probably searching for land to claim, food or females, according to Wilson. Mountain lions travel from 2-30 miles a day, going hundreds of miles from their home.
While this mountain lion has most likely left, Wilson said any individual who sees one should never approach and should make sure there is an escape route for the mountain lion.
