NDCS: Inmate who tested positive for COVID-19 dies at Lincoln hospital

A Nebraska inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 died at a Lincoln hospital Friday, corrections officials said.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Nebraska inmate who had tested positive for COVID-19 died at a Lincoln hospital Friday, corrections officials said.

NDCS Director Scott Frakes said the inmate, who was in his 50s and had several underlying health conditions, had been hospitalized for two weeks. His cause of death has not been determined, Frakes said.

NDCS is not releasing the inmates name, but said he was serving time for burglary, weapons and drug charges of out Saunders and Lancaster County.

A grand jury will conduct an investigation into the death.
