NDOT updates Nebraska 511 with new tools for winter weather

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Transportation announced an updated Nebraska 511 that will bring better service to Nebraskans planning for winter travel.

NDOT announced the updates alongside the Nebraska State Patrol and National Weather Service.

Nebraska 511 provides information on construction, road conditions, closures, lane restrictions, highway cameras and other important information.

NDOT updated Nebraska 511 with new features including; integrated weather, dedicated information to commercial carriers, overhead digital sign messages and updated icons.

During a press conference, NDOT spoke about the importance of preparing for winter weather.

“NDOT is proud to partner with the Nebraska State Patrol and the National Weather Service to be as prepared as possible when winter weather strikes to keep roadways open, and when necessary, close them for the safety of the traveling public and our teammates,” said NDOT Director John Selmer.

NDOT reminds drivers to be prepared with warm clothing and food during winter weather travel. With snowplows out on roads, NDOT urges drivers to be cautious around when traveling near them.
