Nearly 800 hay bales burn in Nebraska fire

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Bertrand Volunteer Fire and Rescue battled a fire that burned about 800 hay bales on Monday.

Fire crews arrived at the blaze near 435th and 735th Roads shortly before 4 a.m.

Fire Chief Kevin Stehl said 783 hay bales were on fire at the time, which were owned by the Dahlgren Cattle Company.  He said that because of the size of the fire, crews were unable to extinguish it and instead worked to contain it.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is being investigated by the Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency.

Bertrand is about 43 miles southwest of Kearney.
