Nebraska’s attempts to minimize partisanship may be lost cause

In an effort to minimize partisanship when redrawing the state’s political boundaries, Nebraska lawmakers are pushing to change the process. But, creating an independent commission to guide their work seems to be a lost cause.

As of now, the 2021 legislative session will follow the same process as the 2011 redistricting.

Proposals made to create an independent commission to draw legislative, congressional, and other districts have stalled, including one vetoed by Gov. Pete Ricketts.
