LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Nebraska continues to drop.

Since hitting a record high of 987 on Nov. 20, the number of coronavirus inpatients has steadily decreased to 896 on Sunday.

It marks the first time the state has had fewer than 900 people hospitalized with the virus since Nov. 14.

Even with the decline, hospitalizations remain at concerning levels – and are still nearly four times as high as they were two months ago.

Around 32% of state hospital beds remain open, along with 27% of ICU beds.

Health experts have warned the decrease comes before what will likely be another surge following the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

More than 126,000 Nebraskans have tested positive for COVID-19, with about half that number reported as recovered.
