Nebraska DC Erik Chinander fired following loss to Oklahoma

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Just one week after the firing of head coach Scott Frost, defensive coordinator Erik Chinander has been let go.

This comes a day after Nebraska lost 49-14 against No. 6 Oklahoma at Memorial Stadium.

Interim head coach Mickey Joseph released a statement Sunday announcing the coaching change.

“We appreciate Erik and the work and dedication he has given to our football program,” Joseph said. “At this time, I feel that it is in the best interest of the Nebraska Football program to take the leadership of the defense in another direction and decided Bill Busch will take over as defensive coordinator.”

Assistant coach Bill Busch will fill in as defensive coordinator for the rest of the season.

Frost and Chinander both coached at UCF before they both came to Nebraska in 2018.

Nebraska is now 1-3 following Saturday’s loss.

Just last week, the Huskers’ defense gave up the most yards ever allowed at Memorial Stadium against Georgia Southern.
