Nebraska Democrats vote for no replacement in Senate race, leaving one-on-one for Ricketts and Osborn

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Democratic Party (NDP) has announced that there will officially be no Democratic candidate in the Senate race.

NDP voted against replacing Cindy Burbank, who dropped out of the race in July.

This decision sets up a one-on-one race between Sen. Pete Ricketts and Dan Osborn. Burbank announced her support for Osborn.

NDP Chair Jane Kleeb said the only way to win against Republicans was with this decision.

“The vote affirms our strategy: the best way to break up corrupt one-party Republican rule in the Senate is to put a mechanic up against a billionaire,” Kleeb said. “Nebraskans deserve a senator who’s turned a wrench, not one who’s inherited a fortune.”
