Nebraska football garners one vote in AP Top 25 Poll
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – With the college football season right around the corner, the Associated Press has released its initial Top 25 Poll.
The Huskers, who finished the 2021 season with a 3-9 record, earned a single vote from a panel of 63 sports writers.
The last time Nebraska had a preseason ranking in the Ap Top 25 Poll was in 2019, when it began the season in the No. 24 spot.
That has been the only time the team started out ranked during head coach Scott Frost’s regime.
In 2018, 2020 and 2021, the Huskers did not garner any votes in the AP’s preseason poll.
Sportswriter Brett McMurphy was the lone voter to place Huskers in his poll, putting the team at No. 25.
Tennessee, Texas, Iowa, Penn State and LSU also received votes but ultimately did not make the top 25.
This year’s preseason poll has Alabama leading the pack, followed by Ohio State and defending national champ Georgia.
Four Big Ten teams made the top 25: Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
The Huskers are scheduled to face Michigan and Wisconsin during conference play.
They will also close out nonconference play against No. 9 Oklahoma at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 17.
